Nedbank Limited has won two awards, a Socially Responsible Bank of the Year and the Innovation in Banking. The awards were presented at the African Banker Awards ceremony in Rwanda last week.

This is the third time in the past five years for Nedbank to receive the Socially Responsible Bank of the Year, an award aimed at companies that go beyond the philanthropic use of funds, according to a statement.

Nedbank chief executive officer Mike Brown is quoted as saying that building a sustainable business remains a key focus for the bank and this extends to making a positive contribution to the communities in which they operate in.

“An integrated approach requires us to address the four pillars of sustainability—cultural, economic, environmental and social—in order to contribute to a better life for all and to deliver lasting benefits for all our stakeholders,” reads the statement in part.

The bank noted that clients are no longer just looking to do banking; they are more discerning about the channels, products and environment in which they conduct their business.

According to the statement, Nedbank Malawi managing director Paul Guta has highlighted that as part of the Nedbank Group, Nedbank Malawi stands to benefit from the parent company’s innovations and bring the resultant and desired client experience to the market.
